UK: Low Investment Economy
12 April 2017
“The UK is a low investment economy with an education system that doesn’t always deliver the goods” according to a recent report from BDO.
The report said that, although companies have continued to hire more staff, slow output has undermined the UK’s “alarmingly low” productivity levels. Peter Hemington, partner at BDO said, “Poor productivity performance is one of the UK’s biggest economic challenges.
“As for investment, the government should have the courage to borrow more to invest in the nation’s increasingly threadbare and out of date infrastructure,” Hemington added.
Meanwhile the OECD said that the leading indicators point to “tentative signs of growth gaining momentum, although uncertainty related to Brexit remains”.
